Ballara Art & Lifestyle Retreat invites you to participate in a unique and personal creative experience, expanding your skills and interest in photography in a spectacular rural and coastal setting. Your base is the beautiful historic homestead of Ballara Art & Lifestyle Retreat in the small agricultural town of Warooka on Southern Yorke Peninsula in South Australia. Guided by Southern Yorke Peninsula-born-and-bred resident and enthusiastic hobby photographer, Steph Ball, alongside a special guest photographer, this will be a relaxed small group residential setting providing the time and space for questions, learning, personal assignments and goals, and sharing with the facilitators and your fellow participants.

Photographers and hobby photographers of all levels are welcome - this is a tour package to suit everyone.

Yorke Peninsula is uniquely shaped - “the only leg Australia has to stand on”! Warooka is situated in the centre of the ‘foot’, surrounded by ocean, only 5km to the nearest beach and less than 50km to the coast in any direction.

An island-like climate provides cooling sea breezes in Summer, however the nickname of ‘Windy Hill’ gives a hint to Warooka’s reputation! Warooka is an easy 2 1/2 - 3 hour drive from Adelaide and Adelaide International Airport. Interstate guests will need to hire a car from Adelaide Airport or in some instances it may be possible to arrange collection.

Photography opportunities can include:

Beach/coastal scenery, farmland, rural scenes, windmills, shearing sheds, stone ruins, farm activities (depending on season) eg. harvest, shearing, wildflowers (July - September), salt lakes, sunrise/sunset over land and sea, night sky/astro, possible portrait session with local characters.

Highlights

Coastal views, beaches, lighthouses, jetties, rural landscape, the spectacular Innes National Park, local history, unique locations and dwellings on private property.

A message from Steph:

As a hobby photographer, I’ve been very fortunate to have experienced such photography tours as Lake Eyre, the Kimberley, and many more. I believe we have our own important and unique experience to offer and perhaps this would appeal to others seeking an undiscovered, lesser-known or unique experience. My wider travel experiences have emphasised what I've always known we have here, and I very much enjoy sharing our treasures.
